Why do Parents Homeschool ?

In an effort to answer this question I came across an interesting study done by none other then the United States Department of Education. The study did a survey in 1999 and found the three main reasons most commonly sited for by parents who homeschooled are

Ability to give your child a better education – 49%

Religious reasons – 38%

Poor learning environment at school – 26% (ouch)

The flaw in a survey like this is that many parents have many different reason as to why they homeschool there kids. For example my wife and I started homeschooling our son 4 years ago and our top 3 reason were…

We wanted to give our child a better education. He was enrolled in the top private Christian school in the area but we still felt the education was lacking.

We both worked from home and thought it would be great if the whole family learned/worked from home.
